WHAT: Into Film are pleased to present a screening of Persepolisas part of the Spring Screenings programme celebrating women in animation. The screening will be followed by an hour-long workshop presented by Thought Bubble Comic Art Festival. Taking inspiration from the film, the workshop will give groups an opportunity to write their own life stories through comic art. Thought Bubble Festival is the UK's largest event of its kind an annual celebration of sequential art in all its forms, including everything from superhero comics to independent and small-press artists and writers. Our aim is to cater to both long-time comic book fans and those who have never picked up a graphic novel before!

In recognition of International Women's Day in March 2018 and in support of Anim18 (the BFI FAN celebration of British Animation, led by Chapter and Film Hub Wales) Into Film's Spring Screenings programme is all about British and International Women in Animation. Highlighting a variety of career opportunities such as VFX supervisor, Puppeteer, Producer and Director within the animation industry, and through the careers of the women that have made these films, we hope to inspire young women and young men aged between 16 and 19 to think about following their own paths into the world of animation.

Persepolis

Synopsis

A highly original and brilliant animated portrait of a young girl's coming of age in revolutionary Iran, adapted from an acclaimed graphic novel by exiled Iranian artist Marjane Satrapi, who co-directed the movie too. The story follows Marjane, a smart and strong-willed girl whose life is forever changed when the Shah of Iran is overthrown by the Islamic Revolution of 1979. While far from being supporters of the Shah, Marjane's left-wing parents find their lives even harder under the new regime - and Marjane herself finds it impossible to adapt, rebelling in a country where rebellion increasingly has no place, especially for girls.

This film has one use of strong bad language and some scenes of violence
