In recognition of International Women's Day in March 2018 and in support of Anim18 (the BFI FAN celebration of British Animation, led by Chapter and Film Hub Wales) Into Film's Spring Screenings programme is all about British and International Women in Animation. Highlighting a variety of career opportunities such as VFX supervisor, Puppeteer, Producer and Director within the animation industry, and through the careers of the women that have made these films, we hope to inspire young women and young men aged between 16 and 19 to think about following their own paths into the world of animation.

Film title

Loving Vincent

Synopsis

Made up of 65,000 painted frames, this is the first fully oil painted feature film, that cleverly brings to life the work of the Dutch impressionist Vincent van Gogh. Exploring the intriguing mystery surrounding his death, the film takes the form of a detective story reluctantly led by Armand, the son of a postman the artist was friends with. In possession of a letter from Van Gogh, Armand’s father instructs him to track down and give the letter to the artist’s brother Theo. But discovering Theo too has died, Armand must find someone else to take possession of the letter and in doing so unearths a series of mysterious events that call into question how the artist really died. With each frame replicating Van Gogh’s distinct painterly style, and every scene and character drawing inspiration from or even a complete replica of Van Gogh’s most celebrated pieces, this is a truly unique animation that tells the story of one of the most celebrated artists in the world through his own work.

Suicide themes, infrequent moderate sex, injury detail.
