Synopsis

Set in 1970s San Francisco, Milk is an inspiring biopic of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay politician to be elected in America. The film shows the shocking prejudice encountered by Milk and those who campaigned alongside him in their fight for equality. Acclaimed director Gus Van Sant creates a fascinating portrait of Milk's political and personal world, brought to life by a fantastic lead performance from Sean Penn, who deservedly won 2009's Best Actor Oscar for the role.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."
