The film shows the shocking prejudice encountered by Milk and those who campaigned alongside him in their fight for equality. Acclaimed director Gus Van Sant creates a fascinating portrait of Milk's political and personal world, brought to life by a fantastic lead performance from Sean Penn, who deservedly won 2009's Best Actor Oscar for the role.
