Into Film Clubs

Anti-Bullying Week (12-16 November) is coordinated by the Anti-Bullying Alliance, and is an annual event that we're always proud to support. This year's theme is Choose Respect, which aims to convey that bullying is a choice, and that even amid disagreements, it's important to respect the other person.
Anti-Bullying Week is a chance for schools to raise the issue of bullying with students, encouraging them to talk about it, and appropriately report any instances they may encounter. The Anti-Bullying Alliance worked with 800 students and professionals to decide upon this year's theme of Choose Respect, the aim of which is to get young people, parents, and education professionals to understand:
- The definition of respect and that bullying is a behaviour choice
- That we can respectfully disagree with each other, i.e. we don't have to be best friends or always agree with each other, but we do have to respect one another
- That we need to choose to respect each other, both face-to-face and online.
Anti-Bullying at the Into Film Festival
As always, much of our year-round programme supports the anti-bullying message, and since Anti-Bullying Week coincides with our Into Film Festival, we've curated an entire strand of the UK-wide event to support the movement against bullying, and in support of young people affected by it.
The Mental Wellbeing: Moving Minds strand at this year's Festival aims to open up discussion around young people and mental health - something that bullying can have a severely negative effect on. Featuring films such as Wonder, Ferdinand and Freak Show, the strand is designed to help young people understand issues around bullying and give them the confidence to react appropriately should they come face-to-face with it.
One notable title in this year's Festival is anti-bullying film Pin Cushion, which comes highly recommended as a resource for students aged 16+. Read one teacher's take on the film below.
