'Go Forward' wins Best Animation 2017: 13 and Over

Congratulations to Child and Family Services of the City and County of Swansea & Winding Snake, whose animation Go Forward has been crowned Best Animation: 13 and Over at the 2017 Into Film Awards.

Go Forward, which you can watch above, sees three young people navigate their way through a complex video game-like world. A set of three associated pieces, written and animated by looked-after children from Swansea in South Wales, this film highlights the ups and downs of their journey to adulthood.

This is a great accomplishment in a lot of ways... The final product really voices the kids' stories and depicts them in the visual execution. Very nice.

Initially made as part of our Diversity and Outreach program, Go Forward is a slick animation that provided a source of outlet for three looked-after children that relished the opportunity to translate their experiences onto film. "By using filmmaking and animation the group felt as if their voices had been heard", said Amy Morris, Managing Director at Winding Snake upon the film's completion.

Wonderful and imaginative film, technically highly accomplished. Great script - you really got a sense of each of the children very quickly. Positive and uplifting. Enjoyed the constant forward motion animation and clearly a huge amount of thought and care had been taken over it. Loved Josh's jiggly legs! A great achievement.

Stephen Mangan, Actor and Into Film Awards Judge

"I feel like it's an opportunity to get my voice heard" said filmmaker Elle, 16, upon receiving the award - a sentiment echoed by Tom, from the Swansea Local Authority, who helped support the filmmakers. "They've benefited by getting their voices heard in what it's like through the journey of being looked after from 6 to 16. They get that experience shared with professionals and the public."

I never thought it would be this big - I feel it's a really greatly opportunity to be in London because I've never been to London before!
