Tim Peake offers inspiration for our Into Space & Home competition

We've already received a raft of entries for this year's Into Film Awards, but there's still plenty of time to enter ahead of the 31 January deadline. Whether it's a brand new film that you're making, or a film that you made in the past that you'd like to enter, be sure to get involved. And don't forget that this year we're running a very special category - Into Space & Home

In the video above, ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Tim Peake reflects upon his experience judging our previous Into Film: Into Space competition from the ISS (International Space Station) itself, and reveals how he hopes his Principia Mission will inspire both future filmmakers and entries to Into Space & Home.

Building on the success of our previous competition and celebrating the imaginative work conducted on Tim Peake's Principia mission on the ISS, Into Film: Into Space & Home is organised into 12 and Under and 13 and Over age categories.

  • You must be between 5 and 19 years of age at the time of submitting your entry (can also be part of a group, in or out of school)
  • Your entry should be no longer than 3 minutes in duration, including titles and credits
  • Your complete submission must be entered into the competition by 31 January 2017
  • Any music, video or still images used in your entry should be cleared for use by the copyright holder or be copyright free (please refer to the IP checklist for more information on this)

Three entries will be shortlisted for each age category, and all entrants will receive a certificate and be entered into a lottery for the chance to attend a special UK Space Agency event. Should your film be shortlisted, you will need to submit a contributor release form. The shortlisted filmmakers will be invited to the Into Film Awards at the ODEON, Leicester Square on 14 March 2017, where the winners in the two age categories will be presented with an award at our red carpet event.

For further terms and conditions, please download our FAQs.

Your submissions can include: Films, clips, recordings, idents, animations (e.g. gifs), or any other moving imagery that has been inspired by space or Tim Peake's mission to the International Space Station.

For example, you could recreate an existing scene in outer space; depict one of Tim's experiments (please stay safe!); or even create your own original film inspired by Tim's mission or space travel in general. We are keen to see how creative you can be, so grab your phones, tablets, iPads, or cameras and start filming your space-inspired shorts!

For even more inspiration, check out the winning films from our previous Into Space competition as announced by Tim Peake himself, live from the ISS.

Another point of inspiration could be our recent Film of the Month winner, The Astronaut, a touching film which sees a young boy, absorbed in his fascination for space travel, attempting to use his knowledge to escape trouble at home. Check out the film below and get thinking about your own space-themed film!
