September 13 marks Roald Dahl day - a day to celebrate the enduring works of one of the most revered children's authors of all time, and the incredible mark his stories have had on the world of film.

Roald Dahl's magical worlds, fantastic characters and creative use of language have delighted children and adults alike for generations, and continue to do so. Dahl's unique ability to tap into young people's imaginations, voices, and anxieties remains unparalleled and has resulted in a number of brilliant film adaptations of his work. From 1971's Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory right through to Stephen Spielberg's recent adaptation of The BFG, Roald Dahl and cinema have long been a perfect match.

Viewing films based on Roald Dahl's work can be a brilliant way to spark a young person's imagination, and can engender a deeper understanding of the original texts, making them a great way to teach literacy. We have several phizz-whizzing Roald Dahl-related film guides and Roald Dahl resources to help you host screenings in your film clubs or classrooms, as well as a Roald Dahl film list to help you select the perfect film for your film club.

Robert Zemeckis' 2020 version of The Witches is the most recent Roald Dahl adaptation, and delivers a classic adventure that's memorable, engrossing, and just a little bit creepy too.
