We are excited to share our latest Film of the Month winner Llwy Gariad, by brilliant young filmmaker Marley, from Carmarthenshire, and our Special Mention this month goes to Vinyl, Is It Dead?, by Molly, from Cardiff.
In this powerful documentary (engaging for 13+) filmmaker Marley visits Molara Awen, the creator of the group Llwy Gariad, to discuss their work supporting ethnically diverse people in South Wales and challenging racism.
It's very shocking for me to win Film of the Month for the first film I have made, I am very thankful and extremely proud of myself.
I wanted to make a documentary film that was important to me and Llwy Gariad has really been an important privilege in my life, and the fact I got to speak with Molara Awen about it makes this even more special to me.
I thought about examples of b-roll and other interview camera set-ups I have seen in other documentary films and decided to implement those in my documentary. I wanted the inclusion of b-roll to have smooth transitions between each other to match with the vibe and topic.
That hard work and passion pay off!
I am working on my Final Major Project for college.
Marley's film will now be shared with over 300,000 Film Club members online. It will also be featured on our YouTube Channel alongside a huge range of youth-made short films. They have secured £100 voucher to further support their filmmaking.
The Special Mention category highlights a film each month that we feel deserves to be celebrated alongside the winning film. This month is no exception and we are delighted to share Vinyl, Is It Dead? by Molly, from Cardiff. Molly shared their experience of making Vinyl, Is It Dead?:
The filming process when creating Vinyl, Is It Dead? was extremely enjoyable, we had so many opportunities to meet new people and interviewing everyone involved was such an exciting experience.
We really wanted to create something that connected all of our interests and investigate how we could take a deep dive into it. We all have an interest in physical copies of music and music in general and wanted to take this as an opportunity to explore the idea of music's evolution in a physical form.
I'd also just like to thank everyone who was involved from my classmates and friends, Aaron, John and Theo, to the strangers we interviewed in Cardiff City Centre and the owners of The Vinyl Frontier for making it all possible.
Finally, a big thanks to Cardiff and Vale College for supporting the project and giving us the equipment and knowledge that we needed to carry out the documentary.
So, what are you waiting for? If you've already made a great film, enter it now! If not, get filming and make your submission soon! There's a new round every month, so you never need to worry about missing an entry deadline. Find out how to make your entry here.
