Congratulations to Edward, aged 14, from Sanquhar, Scotland, whose film More Than One Way to Go Home has won the Audience Choice award (sponsored by Universal Pictures International) at the 2025 Into Film Awards. The award was presented by Andy Serkis and Edith Bowman.
Inspired by the Edward's own personal experiences with autism, his film follows a young autistic girl who has to find her own way home when her brother leaves her to fend for herself. This is a well shot film that conveys some of the difficulties that autistic people can face, and demonstrates how the right support can be key to overcoming these challenges.
The Audience Choice award is particularly special, as it's the only award voted for by the public. With the vote taking place across our social media channels, all of our nominated films combined gained a whopping 198,000 views, and after thousands of votes were cast, Edward's film came out on top. While all Into Film Awards are special, we know it must be especially gratifying to know that your film struck a chord with such a wide audience.
In conceiving his film, Edward was inspired by an event where he was bullied by an adult while out filming in the community. Because he was scared to go near the person, he had to find a new way to get home.
"As an autistic person, it was challenging to him", explains Edward's mother. "He decided to make this short film to highlight how the event made him feel and to show others what in can be like inside his head."
Filmmaking is important to me because I enjoy it and it allows me to express myself in ways I was unable to before.

"I'm over the moon to have been nominated", said Edward upon learning about his nomination, which was originally in the Best Story category. "I feel very happy that my film has been chosen. It makes it feel like all the hard work has been worth it. Filmmaking is important to me because I enjoy it and it allows me to express myself in ways I was unable to before."
Edward started filmmaking during lockdown, bringing his LEGO creations to life through short stop-motion animations. As he developed his skills further, Edward has since created a variety of films, including some documentary-style films for local groups/businesses/schools. He made a short film called Forward to the Past which premiered at a local community centre, as well as a documentary for his local arts centre, which led to him winning Young Community Champion at the Dumfries and Galloway Life Awards.
