Boost Literacy with our Into Film Festival Review Writing Competition

Film reviewing can be an excellent tool to help boost literacy, and adds an extra educational element to visiting the Into Film Festival. Once you've attended a Festival screening, encourage your students to flex their English, comprehension and analytical skills, and write 300 words about the film they've seen.

Bookings for the Into Film Festival are now open, and are on a first-come, first-served basis, so don't delay! The Festival is open to all UK schools and home educators.

There are four different categories for entry:

  • Primary (for those at primary school aged 5-11)
  • Secondary (for those at secondary school aged 11-16)
  • Sixth form (for those aged 16-19)
  • Audio-description (for pupils of any age with sight loss, reviewing the audio-description track of a film).

One winner will be selected from each category, and entries can be submitted via email or free-post. See the application form below for further details on how to enter - just don't forget to tell us on the form which film you're reviewing!

The final day for entries is Friday 9 December 2022. The winning reviews in each category will win £200 of vouchers for their class to enjoy. We are also delighted to partner with the UK's radio station for kids, Fun Kids Radio, offering all four winners the opportunity to chat about their Into Film Festival experience and read an excerpt from their winning review on the show. If they prefer, they will be able to simply send over a recording of their review excerpt, which will be played by the programme's host.

Fun Kids Radio often gives young people the chance to interview actors and other important people in the film and screen industries for its podcast, so our four winners will also be first in line to take advantage of those opportunities when they become available throughout the year.
