Throughout the year, we launch many new articles, resources, training courses and collections of films on Into Film+ to coincide with important dates on the academic and general calendar.

Film is uniquely suited to exploring pretty much any subject, and given the huge amount of content on our website, aligning with these dates allows us to release new material and package up existing content in a more useful and convenient way for educators across the UK.

We are also aware that teachers tend to plan ahead, and that it's useful to know the sort of content we will be presenting in as advance as possible. At the beginning of each half-term, we will be highlighting the upcoming dates that we plan to explore in that period, and this edition covers the half-term from March to the beginning of the Easter holidays in April.

For the below dates - whether they already have a set schedule or if they are still being planned - we welcome any feedback from teachers on what you'd like to see us cover and how we can be more useful to you. The information and links below are an easy, at-a-glance way of knowing what's coming up, but rest assured we'll be exploring many of these topics in far more depth, with even more content, as the dates come around.

Before delving into a very busy March, we wanted to once again highlight our Into Film+ programme for February's LGBTQ+ History Month. The curated collection of films, resources and collaborations with expert voices such as Brook and Stonewall highlights the many elements of this crucial topic, and we'd  encourage you to explore it with your students in the last few days of this month and throughout the year.

March

  • St David's Day (1 March) - We'll be showcasing Tryweryn and its accompanying resources on Into Film+.
  • World Book Day (3 March) - It is the 25th Anniversary of this crucial day for schools and the theme is 'You are a Reader'. We'll be signposting a number of films and their accompanying resources on Into Film+, including The BFGThe Iron Giant and Paddington.
  • British Science Week (11 - 20 March) - This year's theme is 'Growth'. We'll be signposting a number of films and their accompanying resources on Into Film+, including Hidden Figures and The Theory of Everything.
  • BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival (16 - 27 March)
  • Shakespeare Week (21 - 27 March) - We're very excited to be collaborating with Coram Shakespeare, so look out for an article that details this partnership further. Head to our Shakespeare theme page now to start preparing.
  • COVID-19 National Day of Reflection (23 March) - We'll be discussing the winners of our Nature in Your Neighbourhood filmmaking competition, which created a unique time-capsule of young people's lockdown experiences in 2020.
  • World Bipolar Day (30 March) - Observed on the birthday of Vincent Van Gogh.

Finally for March, following on from World Mental Mental Health Day in October and LGBTQ+ History Month in February, we'll be launching a brand-new environmental Into Film+ programme titled 'Our Earth' on 29 March. This programme is specifically designed to complement Earth Day on 22 April, giving you plenty of time to prepare your lesson plans.

April (up to the Easter holidays)

  • International Children's Book Day (2 April)
