The learning sequence starts with young people considering their pre-conceived ideas surrounding stereotyping of race, age and social background through the analysis of film clips and classroom discussion and reconsidering these notions. ?

The main activities of the lesson surround four clips from the film Attack the Block in which pupils are asked to consider setting and environment as well as how characters and environments can be framed and presented in a certain way through the use of mise-en-scène in film.

As an extension activity, learners are encouraged to create a storyboard or short film challenging one particular stereotype of their choosing.

Updating our resources

We have developed a large catalogue of educational resources since launching in 2013, and some references and terminology will inevitably have dated as society and language evolves. We are aware of this and will be updating resources when our production schedule allows.

What our educators say

"Our SATs results this year were great, both progress and attainment in reading and writing have improved compared with last year, which we feel has been largely as a result of integrating the Into Film strategies."
