Storytelling and the passing on of folktales for cultural, moral and social purposes and cohesion is a feature of culture across the African continent and the wider diaspora. In the modern age of filmmaking, artists and filmmakers use animation as a tool to preserve and treasure the stories told via the oral tradition. We are delighted to introduce Animating Africa, a brand new educational resource developed in partnership with Africa in Motion. Join us for a fun and informative session which will start with an introduction from Africa in Motion and will follow with engaging hands-on practical activities exploring some of the content found in the resource. The training session will cover

  • exploration of different animation styles from stop motion animation and computer-generated film clips
  • an introduction to the 3Cs and 3Ss, a toolkit for for decoding and analysing film.
  • practical activities to have a go at creating your own animations and soundscapes
  • lots of ideas for extension activities to take back to the classroom

Light refreshments will be provided and all attendees will receive a complimentary ticket to the Africa in Motion Film Festival. If you have any questions regarding the session, please email edinburgh@intofilm.org
