This course is part of Teaching Literacy Through Film, a series of short learning experiences focusing on specific areas of literacy.

Unlock your pupils’ imaginations and creativity with film in our short course, Visualising Stories.

This free course will explore film as an entry point into understanding narrative. You’ll be introduced to simple strategies to develop key literacy skills and discover how analysing still and moving images can enhance your pupils’ visual imaginations.

As you progress, you’ll consider the benefits of structuring writing around camera shot types and discover how film colour can support work on character. Along the way, you’ll get you the chance to try out these fun activities, access to engaging short films and download lesson resources to help you to put your new skills into practice.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Deliver engaging lessons to inspire pupils’ imaginations
  • Use the language of camera shots to support comprehension
  • Develop accessible writing opportunities through shot types
  • Enhance descriptive vocabulary by focusing on film colour.
