Although critically the film was unsuccessful, great acting a dark plot make it something completely different. Sebastian and Kathryn live their hedonistic life behind closed doors. Kathryn outwardly conforms to the socially acceptable, while her and Sebastian taint those around them, removing their innocence and using them as toys in their own game for delight. The tear Kathryn sheds at the end i like to think is through her realisation of what Sebastian truly thought of her. Sebastian rose above his step sister and her seduction, he broke from the temptation and sacrificed love for integrity. And as the film comes full circle, Annette puts on Sebastian's sunglasses while driving his car; next to her is Sebastian's journal - Cruel Intentions.
