MicMacs proved to me that some films have to be a certain language to succeed. There were countless sequences which would have fallen apart if it had not been for the French charm and language. However, Jean Pierre Jeunet's films are often strange and immediately engaging. From the first use of quick-cutting, covering the first thirty years of Bazil's life. We quickly learn that he is the victim of several events throughout his life which result in the death of a parent, his running away from home and unemployment which finally result in stumbling upon MicMacs; a team of surreal characters who run a tyre company. In short, you could say that this film is about discovering something good through all the suffering, and the justice of certain individuals who have brought about this suffering. With many beautiful shots and a cliched screenplay, that manages to both make fun of itself and emphasise the mood, this is an extremely fun film that I thoroughly enjoyed.
