Tron, well back in the dark ages I'd imagine that the graphics were extraordinary. It was a graphic orientated film, apart from that the movie didn't have much else to offer.
The screenplay side of things, was quite robotic really, when programs were blown apart there was literally no emoition shown which I thought was a bit peculiar. I thought the dialogue in the script was primary school standard mainly becasue when they were actually speaking, their words seemed very forced like the actors themselves didn't have a clue why they were saying these things, which I have to say was not a promising sign. The plot was pointless; suddently they were running everywhere, shouting random phrases they didn't understand and in the end nothing really happened.
Mainly because of the poor screanplay, the actors were reluctantly pulled into the knot of the film. Most of them had no idea what was happening and this played havoc on their acting skills making them seem more puppet like than proffesional actor dancing around to the childish orders of the crazed director.
Steven Lisberger must of been so obsesed by his graphic addiction that he completly forgot about any other aspects of the film; where was the comedy and drama. I have to say even the CGI was dodgy but then this was made back in the dark ages (1982).
Another fault of the film was the errie surreal background music that clung to every scene like a purgeont smell infecting each of them by making them seem like some weird Si-Fi music video, it definitly didn't help by making the charactors due to strange dance like fighting scenes which half looked like some sort of erotic roleplay.
The original ideas were good, but the rest was not, a extremly dire film to be honest. This film did not work for me but then again, it was made in the dark ages.
