'J. Edgar' has never appealed to me, yet I surprisingly enjoyed it. DiCaprio's performance was phenomenal, portraying J. Edgar Hoover as a powerful, but controversial figure. He is most convincing when he shows Edgar as a young man through his characterisation and DiCaprio's knowledge of Edgar in this time period. Eastwood brought together a well structured and entertaining film reviewing Hoovers professional and personal life. My eyes were fixed to the screen, intrigued in the story unfolding in front of me. The story opened my eyes to this feared yet inspiring man who was admired in America, who held huge secrets no one would ever have guessed. The drama unfolds through Edgar looking back on his life and how he got to where he is today with all of his success. The cast holds a strong base for the main protagonist including Judi Dench, Ed Westwick and Naomi Watts. Overall the film mainly concentrated on Edgar's life alone not fully showing his effect on America. However, it gives the audience a different perspective on J. Edgar Hoover.
