Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind is an unconventional love story, which follows the lives of a man and a woman after a break up. It is filmed in a non-chronological order portraying how difficult it can be to be in love. The disjointed memories of their time together come back in pieces, causing everything to become problematic. It shows how forgetting someone is never easy, yet if you had fun at the time, you realise you don't really want to get rid of good memories. It is a film outside the normal genres and has an unusual soundtrack to accompany it. Although this can be a confusing film to follow, I believe this is intentional to try to convey the confusion a person goes through whilst recovering from a break up with someone they have relied on. It underlines the fragility and also the necessity of memories, and how the attachment we make with other people can cause us great suffering. I think this film is well worth watching and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There are lots of twists that keep you entertained the whole way through and it shows you that not all romance stories are the same and there are still some new innovate ways in which to tell them.
