James Stewart is the unlikely hero of this western. He plays a lawyer who is attacked by a notorious outlaw- Liberty Valance- as it travels out west. Stranded in the desert town he gets to know the residents and how they all have problems with Valance- except the tough gunman played by John Wayne. The grudging relationship that builds between the lawyer and cowboy is interesting along with the individual characters. A very good film.
