This unusual film had a dark feel and is based on the Dr Seuss story. Clever make up made the Grinch, played by Jim Carrey (The Truman Show), come to life in this hit and miss film. There was little comedy despite the efforts of Jim Carrey and the film failed to take off for me. The film is set in a fictional world of strange looking and fantastical characters vaguely resembling cats and centres around a little girl who tries to restore the Grinch's faith in Christmas and the other townsfolk. The film could have benefitted from more musical numbers to lighten the mood.
This is my least favourite Jim Carrey film and did not fill me with Christmas cheer. I would recommend this film to younger viewers of between 5 and 7 years of age. Its not a Christmas classic for me.
