Turtles Can Fly (2004)

This film gives us a realistic insight into the Iraq war. It is an emotional, eye-opening film, that allows us to understand the lives of the civilians who suffer from the effects of war. The film follows the struggle of the children in a Kurd refugee camp, fighting to survive in their harsh environment. With no parents and little sign of compassion, the children are left to fend for themselves, making this film even more hard hitting. We learn about the lives of all the different characters, including those with unthinkable pasts, ones we in a western society struggle to even comprehend. I would definitely recommend this film, although it is not made to entertain, but to educate. The film is suitable for anyone aged 14 and over, however some scenes may be hard to watch or understand.
