Not as satisfying as the previous films but worth a look, mainly because it features the return of Gene Hackman as criminal mastermind...

The Superman franchise has taken a swift turn in Superman IV. It's just as bad as the third entry in the series Superman III. I would agree that fans of the Superman movies who loved one and two and hated Superman III would refuse to watch the fourth entry. The series was almost killed by Superman III and subsequently the fourth movie. It was a box-office bomb and the most unsuccesful film in the series at the box-office. After a nineteen year hiatus the series was redeemed at the release of Superman Returns, starring Brandon Routh as the man wearing the red cape. The movie has a bad visual style. New characters added to the script are some of the worst characters you'll ever see in a movie - i'm talking about the Warfields in the movie: the people who partly ran the Daily Planet as the main executives. A more commonly ridiculous character is the new villain: the devily-unscary Nuclear Man, played by Mark Pillow, who's Lex Luthor's ( Gene Hackman ) pet. The acting was terrible and couldn't be more worse. People will probabaly think there's no movie that can get any worse than this, but I disagree. I know Superman IV is considerably a bad movie, but 1997's Batman & Robin is far worse and far from great. Like seriously - you'd think the writers and director Sidney J. Fury could oversee where they were going wrong with this movie - maybe they did. The fourth movie must've been a tough challenge for them. Despite the negativity in the movie i'm gonna single out the character Lenny ( Jon Cryer ) who was the nephew of Lex Luthor. The character was both funny and ridiculous; he kept part of the movie's spirit alive. If I had to recommend Superman IV: the Quest for Peace to anyone I would recommend it for child boys. I doubt parents will watch and enjoy, but I don't see why not show it to their young boys. Young boys that love Superman will be attracted to the movie and will watch peacefully. I remember when I was little I watched this movie and enjoyed it because i've always been a fan of Superman. As I got older and moved on to different stages in life I began to get bored of the movie and couldn't enjoy it no more because I realized what was bad and why I couldn't enjoy it no more. Like I said Superman IV is right for the sort of audience as i've mentioned. There will always be people who will like this movie and ones who will find it disgraceful.
