Wes Anderson is one of the best directors out there, and this is some of his best work. Not only is this film directed well, the characters are all very layered and are developed well throughout the story. Some of the camera work in this film is outstanding, quite a lot of the time you hear something before you see it, and this works. Gene Hackman is excellent in this film, playing the patriarch of the Tenenbaum family. All the acting in this film is great, but I would say his is the best. This film is not as visually striking as some of his later works (eg. Moonrise Kingdom) but you can still see Anderson's distinct style of directing. This is a very good film held together by a wonderful cast.
