Where do we go now? Well I'm not altogether sure to be honest. The film is entertaining and in places can be pretty funny but at the same time the satirical vision of the director doesn't seem to have fully come to light and rather has been replaced by a see-saw of dark humour and clunky emotionally gut-punching plot lines and singing sequences. The premise of the film revolves around a group of Christian and Muslim women trying their best to keep the men of the village from killing everyone, they do this in ways like distracting them with strippers, cutting off outside news and drugging them. These situations can get a few laughs but not really for clever reasons. The premise of religious war reduced to middle aged women baking hash brownies is a funny situation, but then a realistic fight over religious hatred breaks out and an emotionally important character dies and it's like a punch right to the stomach after jokes about a stripper's sunburn. The acting in some places is very entertaining and very powerful however repeated dialogue of a character screaming "say something" gets irritating and tedious fast when the other character just stares at them like they're trying to remember how to breath. All in all I'm glad I saw the film but I can't say I'd watch it again out of choice. It was fun enough to watch but just not interesting enough to keep me engrossed. In fact a lot of unnessercery scenes could have been cut to half the runtime and keep the story going without having a dead goat funeral or a randomly input singing/dancing scene. To pick on a cliché I'd have to describe it as good, not great. Hence the three star rating.
