Who doesn't love going back to an 80s film, the classics: ET, Starwars, The Breakfast Club, but is a talking plant a bit too far? All us young kids understand the 80s were a bit..... unusual, however after watching Frank Oz's release Little Shop of Horrors it is clear that decade was far into the unknown!
The story stars Rick Moranis, as Seymour Krelborn, who is always seen as the good-for-nothing geek. However he grabs fame at the chance when he buys an extraordinary plant, Audrey II. This $1.95 purchase sends fame and fortune jumping out around every corner of skid row. He has impressed his boss, Mushnik, his not so subtle crush, Audrey, and the rest of the downtown neighbourhood; he is the biggest celebrity on the block. However there is a dark twist in the tale when Seymour discovered Audrey II is only interested in blood...
With a sadistic dentist, a beautiful new girlfriend and uptown reporters desperate for his fame will Seymour manage to get rid of this murderous plant or will his phenomenon continue until skid row is too late?
The story line definitely goes off on 'outgrowing' tangents which can lead to loss in interest and the film exaggerates its show tunes, skinny love story and green cannibal to a whole new point of cringes. Therefore I personally agree it is much better unconfined on the west end where Audrey II's leaves can grow further than just our TV screens.
Although what I think is bizarre may be ideal for your Saturday’s wacky film night so I do recommend it if your in the mood for a unique comedy.
