Let The Right One In (2008)

“Let the Right One In” is based on the book by John Ajvide Lindqvist. It’s set in Sweden and is about a lonely, 12-year-old boy named Oskar who is regularly bullied by some boys in his class. He becomes friends with Eli, the vampire. The film is in Swedish and has English subtitles. I don’t really like subtitled films but again I enjoyed this film, it was very intriguing to watch, however I did not like the blood/gore scenes. There is snow throughout the whole film and it is dark a lot and it gives an edge to the film, it’s very cold and dark which makes it more sinister. It is very different to the other vampire films I’ve seen and it’s not very cliché. Oskar finds love and friendship with Eli, but also he uses her for revenge to get the bullies back. It is very interesting to watch and the subtitles are easy to read. The film was directed by Tomas Alfredson and I think it is directed beautifully and the cinematography is good as it is very sinister as I said before. I did not quite get why she had to be invited or aloud to come in to his house and if she didn’t, she would bleed everywhere, I didn’t understand what that had to do with the whole film. But overall I liked the storyline and it is a more paced out vampire horror movie; the tension is built slowly but is very good. The film is very mesmerizing and the acting by these kids is amazing and they show real chemistry. I think it’s shown with a lot of realism and the film is very well done.
