Project Almanac... 2015's first Bay-fest; that's right Michael Bay has been involved with the making of the brand new time travel film entitled "Project Almanac", he produced this film... not direct it; however this film ultimately feels like that Michael Bay was in full control of the entire thing, I know this because there are several things in this movie that I was able to point out and actually say "that's something Bay would have placed in the movie" like the fact that several times in this movie the camera focuses on women's bodies and legs; this is something that can be easily found in the "Transformers" movies which are actually directed by Bay and this is one of the things that people hate about Bay; they hate the fact that Bay always likes to focus the camera on women in a way that is mildly inappropriate, although in Bay's other works like the "Transformers" movies in which he doesn't do that a lot with the camera... this movie on the other hand goes a bit too far with that certain camera work which is a problem; I don't want to spend most of the movie just looking at women's bodies onscreen... once or twice is bad enough but to show more than that amount is going a bit too far, I remember back in 2014 when "The Purge: Anarchy" was released in cinemas; I remember walking out of that film calling it a masterpiece and one of the reasons why I said that was because I felt that it was the first ever Michael Bay produced film that was actually quite tamed and calm compared to his other works; think about it "The Purge: Anarchy" did not have any of the content that Bay normally places in his movies, it told a brilliant story about the different class systems and why the purge was actually created; that movie proved to me that Michael Bay can be a very profound and smart filmmaker who has incredible talents when it comes to producing films; Project Almanac on the other hand throws all of his smart and profound talent in the bin, Project Almanac goes back to the Bay who likes to go completely wild with his movies adding most of the content that he would normally place in his movies; does this make Project Almanac a terrible film?... no it doesn't, in my personal opinion I think that Michael Bay makes really fun films no matter if they are wild or tamed; albeit they are not masterpieces (except for "The Purge: Anarchy") or great movies... but they are good fun movies, so it's completely no surprise that I liked Project Almanac because it is a really fun movie just like Bay's other works; albeit the time travelling segments are quite complex as a result for the film's craziness and wildness but honestly I feel that works for a film like this, if a film is going to be completely wild in terms of it's content then it's going to be wild in terms of it's time travelling segments; the characters although not relatable in any way are very fun to be around throughout the entire course of this movie, I mean seeing them change their lives with the time machine is really entertaining to watch and is at some moments quite funny... I couldn't help but laugh at some of the things these people did in this movie; the movie runs at a nice fast pace and the film's run time is perfectly alright, I did not feel for a second whilst watching Project Almanac that it was dragging on or feeling too slowly paced; surprisingly Project Almanac went pretty quickly for me which proves my point about the film being fun and entertaining because time flies by when you're having fun; the found footage camera work was completely well done and it worked very well except when it was used to look at women's bodies and legs, and I liked the ending to this film; I felt that it was quite clever, smart and quite surprising for a movie that went completely wild with everything including the time travelling segments; overall I feel that Project Almanac was good fun and really enjoyable, it has characters that are really fun to be around throughout the entire course of this movie; there are several moments in this movie that are really entertaining to watch and are at times quite funny; the found footage camera work was really well done; it ran at a very fast pace; the run time was perfectly alright, and I thought the ending was really clever and smart; however there were times during the time travelling segments where it got into really confusing territories; the camera work although really good for the most part needs to stop constantly looking at women's bodies and legs, and although the characters were really fun to be around I would have liked them to be more relatable instead of them being totally wild and crazy; this movie is not on the level of "The Purge: Anarchy" but it is still worth checking out, I will give Project Almanac a 7.5 out of 10.
