Ok... it's been about a week since the Oscars was aired on television screens worldwide; let's talk about the best picture winner, I saw this movie at the beginning of this year when 2015 opened it's doors and I went into this movie with very high expectations because a lot of people told me this film was brilliant and I really wanted to see this movie as well; turns out the film exceeded my expectations and I was completely amazed by this film... I never knew that I would love Birdman so much; I went into this film thinking that it was going to achieve an extremely high 4 star rating but I came out of Birdman giving it a solid 5 star rating, firstly the film is about an actor who has completely lost his reputation with the audience he once had and he is trying to redeem himself by directing his own stage play; so the film's morale lesson is about making sure you climb back up when you fall down and that is what this character is trying to do throughout the entire course of this movie... he is simply trying to get his audience back and becoming the great actor everybody once knew before his career went into complete downfall, and this movie tells the audience this lesson brilliantly; I never thought that a movie which is meant to be a dark comedy can teach people a good morale lesson with quality and profoundness... I mean that's amazing in my opinion, secondly the music in this film makes you want to buy the soundtrack after you have seen this film; the soundtrack is so exceptional that to this day I am still trying to get the album for this film, my favourite song in Birdman is when Riggan Thomson is flying through the air and above the streets of New York... the orchestral song that is played during that sequence is completely compelling, profound and exceptional; to this day it remains as my favourite song in Birdman and one of the best songs I've heard in any film that I have seen up to this day, thirdly the cinematography has been executed perfectly... I mean making your film look like one constant shot is one of the most ambitious things I have ever seen in a film; Boyhood may be ambitious due to it being filmed over 12 years but in order to do that all you need is patience... really good patience, Birdman on the other hand has a constant shot running through the majority of the film (I say majority because there are times during Birdman when a constant shot transitions into another constant shot, but it still looks like one shot) and in order to achieve a constant shot you need good cinematography skills, you need to make sure that you are really steady when moving across corridors and you need to make sure your characters get everything right during that constant shot because if they get the slightest thing wrong then they have to do the entire constant shot all over again; so I'm sorry but filming a constant shot is way more ambitious than filming a film over 12 years, also like I said the transitions between one constant shot and another constant shot looks so good that it actually looks like it is still one continuous shot and I have got to the give the editors and the cinematographer props for doing that; the acting is brilliant also, Michael Keaton and Edward Norton have a brilliant chemistry in this movie and there are moments when they are bitingly funny, in fact there were moments in which I completely laughed out loud because when Riggan Thomson (Michael Keaton) and Mike Shiner (Edward Norton) have conflicts with each other the results of these conflicts are so funny that you burst out laughing until your chest hurts; the chemistry between those two characters is one of the best chemistries that I have ever seen in a film and one of the most funniest, all of the other actors like Emma Stone, Zach Galifianakis and Naomi Watts also did exceptionally well and were perfectly cast in this movie; I really cannot think of any other actor(s) who could play all of these characters as well as this cast did, the run time is perfectly timed and at no point during my experience of watching this incredible masterpiece did I ever get bored or exhausted; the film does a brilliant job at not making you lose interest in this film and you are engaged with this film throughout the entire 119 minute journey which completely amazes and surprises you, I am going to get this movie on Blu-ray because overall Birdman is an absolute masterpiece which is ambitious, exciting, compelling, profound and above all exceptional; it tells a good morale lesson to the audience, it has a profound soundtrack which makes you want to buy the album as soon as you leave the multiplex after watching this film, the cinematography was very ambitious in it's own rights as well as completely profound, the chemistry between Riggan Thomson and Mike Shiner was absolutely hilarious and brilliant, the acting was absolutely brilliant to the point of which I can't think of any other actor(s) who could have played those characters as well as this cast did, the run time was perfectly timed and at no point during Birdman did I get bored or exhausted; I am so glad Birdman won the best picture Oscar because it deserved it and although The Grand Budapest Hotel was another film that I wanted to win the best picture Oscar I feel that Birdman is a way better film than The Grand Budapest Hotel, and I feel that Birdman deserves the best picture Oscar more than The Grand Budapest Hotel does; if you haven't seen this movie... WHY?! YOU NEED TO SEE THIS MOVIE IT IS A MASTERPIECE!, I will give Birdman a 10 out of 10.
