I've just seen Neill Blomkamp's new movie; let's review it... I saw Chappie today in the IMAX format and in my personal opinion Chappie is an extraordinary piece of work; this extraordinary piece of work not only proves that Neill Blomkamp is one of the best filmmakers who makes sci-fi films but it is also further proof that Neill Blomkamp is the right choice for directing the upcoming "Alien" sequel, firstly Chappie tells a lot of good stories concerning things like keeping promises, humanity and above all love and this movie also tells these stories brilliantly; one of the key elements in Chappie is that despite the fact many of these stories are being told all at once to the audience, this movie never lets one story overcome the other story... it fills the audience in with certain pieces of information yet it never lets the audience forget about other pieces of information which are relevant to the other moral stories that Chappie is telling; which is completely profound in my opinion, it is really difficult to keep each moral story on the exact same level at once without losing the balance between each one... but luckily though one of the things Blomkamp is fantastic at is telling the audience all sorts of moral stories in really tough and gritty periods and thankfully once again he doesn't disappoint us... in Chappie he has once again managed to tell a really good moral story inside a really tough and gritty period except only this time he has managed to tell quite a few moral stories within this 120 minute movie, which proves to me that Blomkamp is absolutely brilliant with doing things like this and managing to keep each moral story relevant without one story over-throwing the other story; it is just completely profound that Blomkamp has actually managed to do this and I'm really impressed with him because of this, secondly Die Antwoord (Ninja and Yolandi Visser) are also really good as playing as themselves... except in this movie they're not a band, they are gangsters; they do an extremely good job at making you care for them despite the fact they are bad people, it is really extraordinary when a movie succeeds at making you care for people who you would normally either dislike or hate... it is just really incredible when a movie succeeds at this; in some cases you are able to relate to these gangsters because from the beginning of this movie they are shown to be in huge heaps of trouble and all they want to do is get out of that trouble; so you can in some cases relate to these characters and ultimately in the end you care for them despite the trouble they have caused, again this is showing me that Blomkamp is on the top of his game as he proving us that he is also really good at making us care for characters despite their personalities and characteristics... so again thumbs up to Blomkamp; you also care for the villain (Hugh Jackman) in this movie as well because you can kind of understand why he becomes so evil and cold-hearted... all he wants to do is get people's attention throughout the course of this entire movie but he doesn't get the attention he wants and he just becomes this repressed ball of anger in which he wants to just tear things apart; it kind of just makes you feel like that you could just pat this guy on the back and tell him "never mind" because you just feel sorry for the guy despite the fact he becomes evil; even more proof that Blomkamp can make us care for characters that we would usually dislike/hate, let's jump right into it... how was Sharlto Copley as Chappie? HE WAS ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT; he played the role of Chappie exceptionally well and he shows the development of Chappie's behavior brilliantly, he also does quite a bit of yelling as well like he has done with his other two collabs with Blomkamp ("District 9" and "Elysium") but to be fairly honest with you I quite like Copley shouting and yelling at people, oh yeah and also taunting them at points... it is just really entertaining to watch and listen to whilst it is being portrayed on screen, Copley is also really good at showing emotion and personality within Chappie's metal body... at times you can hear the emotion in his voice and if you look closely enough you can see it in Chappie's electronic eyes; so props to Sharlto Copley for bringing the character of Chappie to life, all of the other actors like Dev Patel and Sigourney Weaver were brilliant as well, the visuals and graphics were spectacular like in Blomkamp's previous works, the music that can be heared throughout the course of this movie is awesome, the run time is perfectly timed and because Chappie is so full of content and detail there is completely no point in Chappie where you begin to lose patience or get bored; I did not get bored once whilst watching Chappie because overall this movie is a masterpiece which is able to tell great moral stories in a tough situation without one story over-throwing another story, Neill Blomkamp's direction is fantastic, you are able to care for every single character in this film and all of the actors who play these characters are brilliant including Die Antwoord, the music in this movie is awesome, the visuals and graphics are spectacular, the run time is perfectly timed and the film stays at a constant pace throughout the entire movie which means you never get bored whilst watching Chappie; I am absolutely looking forward to seeing what Neill Blomkamp will do for the upcoming "Alien" sequel because I know he is going to do extremely well making it... if you haven't seen Chappie yet please do because you're MISSING OUT on a MASTERPIECE; I will give Chappie a 10 out of 10.
