Oh. My. Goodness. I genuinely think that this could give a lot of modern horror movies a run for their money! It was REALLY scary and totally exceeded my expectations. It has instantly secured a place in my Top 10 Movies.
The film is presented as the flashback of a man named Francis, remembering the time a man named Dr. Caligari arrived in town with his Somnambulist, Cesare, and a series of mysterious crimes start to happen. Cesare is a creepy character, with his freakish eyes and strange manner. He is constantly referred to as "the Somnambulist", meaning "the sleepwalker", and has apparently been asleep for 23 years. He is treated as a madman, and can sometimes seem a bit deranged. The facial expressions used by all of the characters are chilling and genuinely terrify me. The plot-line is interesting and unpredictable and for the first ever movie to use a twist ending, it did a great job. Overall, I would give this 10/10 easily. Great story, great cast, great acting skills, great ending, great everything. Absolutely loved it.
