This film was originally released in cinemas... I find that VERY hard to believe... The Story The story is about Charlie and Itchy finding Gabriel's Horn after if falls into the hands of a a familiar foe This film changes the setting from the first films setting in 1930s New Orleans because this film is set in San Fransisco in the 1990s. Which means that Anne-Marie and other side characters from the first film are never mentioned in this film whatsoever. The film has some creative ideas such as making the Devil a cat, playing with the title 'All Dogs Go to Heaven' and that 'All Cats Go to Hell'. But the film has a few plot holes concerning with both being a sequel to the first film and as it's own film, which may make fans of the original disappointed with this film. The Characters With this film set around 60 years since the original, it makes sense that Charlie would be sick of heaven, considering his personality in the first film. What doesn't make sense is why Charlie trusts Carface again (multiple times) since Carface killed him in the original film. The characters overall are given a decent amount of character development that makes them standout compared to other characters in Don Bluth sequels. The Animation/Special Effects The animation looks unfinished at best and looks like a direct-to-video or a Saturday Morning cartoon at worst. With the film being released in Cinemas, you would of thought that they would of tried harder with the animation. But all you have to do is look at the background character designs to see how lazy they got with secondary character designs. But the main cast's designs look alright, except for David's character design that looks dated nowadays. The main issue with the character designs are that the clash with the background terribly. With two different designs, they look quite bad together at times. The backgrounds look fine some of the time, but at others, they look really blurry like someone spilt a drink on them and were too lazy to make a new background in it's place. The Songs The songs are by far the best part of this film. They really went out of their way to make the songs as great as possible. The best songs in this film are the villain song, 'It's so good to be bad' and the love songs 'I will always be with you'. The only song I found to be quite annoying was the song 'easy street'. It felt quite forced and weak compared to the rest of the songs in this film. Final Thoughts Overall, if you are a die-hard fan of the first film, I don't really recommend that you watch this film. But if you are looking for a film to watch with your kids, this will be a great film to watch. With it's creativity and catchy songs, you will be in for a howling good time!
