IN THE HEART OF THE SEA is a captivating tale based on the story behind one of Herman Melville's most well known tales. It tells the story of the brave crew who had to go to extraordinary lengths to survive, and commit unspeakable abominations. The story is narrated by a member of the crew (years later in the future) as he tells his tale to author Herman Melville (brilliantly played by Ben Whishaw) which was very compelling and made the story seem more real. I thought it was very interesting to see how people thought, and the way society works. Whilst enjoying a great film you also learn about whaling ships and how different humanity is now. My favourite part of the the film was the fast paced action in beautiful locations. I also thought the special effects and CGI was fantastic, everything looked so realistic! My least favourite bit was probably the beginning, however it didn't take long to get into the main story-line, and once it had started, you never lost track of the events or what was happening. I thought the cast were excellent, and the raw emotion was incredible (especially from Chris Hemsworth and Tom Holland) I liked the varying levels of relationship between different characters too. I recommend this to anyone over ten; it isn't too hard to understand, but it does contain some upsetting scenes. Even if you think the style isn't for you, I'd watch it because I think it will surprise a lot of people. I wouldn't change anything about this film, although there were parts I didn't like as much, non of it was unnecessary, and it was all needed to make it the fantastic film it is. Lucy J
