The Great Gatsby is about a man who spends half a decade constructing an elaborate monument to the woman of his dreams, but I can honestly say, after reading review after review, I wasn't 100% impressed with the film. Don't get me wrong, the acting is great, I love the costumes, the hair, the makeup and the old cars. They really managed to capture life back in the 1920s, however, the crucial moments of drama are often poorly handled. What's firmly wrong with the film is that there's no reality to raise; it's a show in search of a soul. It just didn't pull me in or have me sat on the edge of my seat; which is what I love in a movie. There may be worse movies than The Great Gatsby, but there won't be a more crushing disappointment.
