Cloverfield is a 'found footage' film directed by Matt Reeves and stars Jessica Lucas, Lizzy Caplan and Michael Stahl-David. The main problem with this film is that it is a found footage film, which, as a concept, has grown tired and cliché. I understand that this film was one of the first to utilise this style of filmmaking but through the eyes of a modern viewer it is difficult to remain interested as, thanks to recent similar releases, the film is somewhat redundant as the entire narrative feels like something we have seen hundreds of times. Saying that, I did not fully dislike this film, the 'Cloverfield Monster' itself was actually somewhat imposing and had an interesting design; by the end of the film I wished we had seen more of it. The main characters are uninteresting and forgettable; literally, I cant name any of them, there were four of them I think; the guy that carries the camera I remember being particularly annoying but other than that they have no interesting characteristic that would separate them (other than gender or haircut) Anyway, over-all the film was ok, this was my second viewing - first time I saw it (when it came out) I thought it was bad but apon a second viewing it could pass as ok, I guess that's something.
