Arrietty (2011)

Arietty is a film I've been meaning to watch for a while. When I did though I thought it was a very enchanting and serene film. Some may have found it strange or boring but for me the story was intriguing. The animation was beautiful, like all Ghibli films it was smooth and each movement looked genuine. You can always tell when alot of time has been poured into a film and this is one of those films.

The films message is hazy in my opinion, it kept changing. For me it was that even the smallest of people can make a difference. I'm not sure if that was the actual message. It did however show how humans can react towards things that aren't human. The housekeeper treated the 'borrowers' with malice and reacted negatively towards seeing something that wasn't a human being. That kind of thing can be related back to how people treat not only animals but the supernatural. They can be so quick to dismiss something that doesn't make sense, if it can't be explained then it doesn't exist.

Overall I very much enjoyed Arietty. It was a good watch and I will definetly watch again sometime. My only complaint is...translation. I believe a good deal of the meaning got lost in translation, which is quite sad but unfortunately it happens quite often espeicially with a complex language such as Japanese. I would also recommend this film to all ages, it is quite touching.
