Let's face it. The ancient Roman epic genre of film went extinct in the early 70's and was forever crying to be something more. This 2000 Ridley Scott masterpiece seemlessly reinvented this genre perfectly. The film follows the story of Roman General Maximus (Russell Crowe) after he is betrayed by the treacherous Comodus (Joaquin Phoenix), sold into slavery he is forced to fight for he life as Gladiator against emperors and the true might of the Roman Empire. This brilliantly quotable movie sums up what a movie should be with its stellar screenwriting, performances, cinematography, directing and visual effects as well its fantastic fight scene choreography! Worthy of 6/5 stars a timeless CLASSIC! STRENGTH AND HONOUR!
