Here's a question, if you were an alien race planning on invading earth where would you plan your first strike? some of you may say The White house, or New York or even a small town away from the mass public but if you choose a city block in the west end then get ready for Inner City VS Out of Space as it's time to Attack The Block.
Set to the backdrop of the 5th of November AKA Guy Fawkes night Attack The Block follows a group of reckless teens consisting of Moses (John Boyega), Pest ( Alex Esmail), Jerome (Leeon Jones), Dennis ( Franz Drameh) and Biggz (Simon Howard) who after mugging a nurse named Sam (Jodie Whittaker) violently kill a crashed alien, but after the brutal murder of the creature more of them appear and start attacking anyone who gets in their way forcing the gang to team up with Sam, a drug addict named Brewis ( Luke Treadaway), two 9 year old gang member wannabes called Probs (Sammy Williams) and Mayhem (Michael Ajayo) and local drug dealer Ron (Nick Frost) to finally put an end to the Alien race and save the Block.
The film is entertaining its fun, has great comedy, the Aliens are intimidating and has great action. Many people take issue with the fact that the main cast are basically thugs who are presented as heroes but I don't take issue as the idea of the film is to show despite this part of their lives they either live normal lives or destroyed lives and that despite this they have a good heart and will do whats right when it comes down to it, this can especially be seen in how the film came to be the director himself was mugged and saw that the children mugging him were just as afraid as him there's even a line referencing this "we was just as afraid as you was". Because of this the characters can be likable and relatable at times and even have some genuinely heroic moments between them allowing for the film to be an enjoyable, fun and at times scary adventure for muggers and meggees alike
