Submarine is a 2010 comedy Drama directed by IT crowd actor Richard Ayoade it stars young actor Craig Roberts as young Oliver Tate an unnerved and awkward kid and his experiences with his girlfriend and his parents potentially breaking up. Oliver Tate (Craig Roberts) is a far from normal kid he speaks like Hannibal Lecter and is anything but popular at school, he lives with his parents Lloyd (Noah Taylor) and Jill (Sally Hawkins) and is currently at fear that his mum will run off with an ex-boyfriend/ new age guru called Graham Purvis (Paddy Constanine). At the same time, he is also dealing with his own personal issues with his new girlfriend Jordana Bevan (Yasmin Paige) who is losing her more adventurous edge. The film is very funny and deals with a lot of very relatable issues, this does make it lean a bit more on the drama side than comedy especially as it deals with a lot of very dark material such as tumours, infidelity and the possibility of divorce, but the comedy is strong in a lot of scenes especially the first parts of the film but once the last acts of the film come along the film gets really dark and sad which does make it a bit of a downer, but the ending does fix that as despite an ambiguous ending there are parts of it that help make you happy and make it a very enjoyable and funny film.
