From I knew that this movie would be legendary, why? Because it was made by Legendary: (the company) of course! The actual reason is that this film is one of a kind. As I have said in my Martian Review, Mark Watney is a extremely fortunate person, driving rovers and colonising Mars. However the Martian has met it’s successor, in my opinion the successor Pacific Rim is a powerhouse in the film world. What would be awesome about Colonising Mars and riding rockets when you could pilot a 7000 Tonne robot with a massive sword, Plasma Cannon and a cracking name. As well as that you can also battle monsters using oil tankers as clubs and throwing them into skyscrapers. Adrenaline and action packed, Pacific Rim is a ‘Have To See’ in cinemas.
I extremely like the film because it is cleverly called Pacific Rim as there is a massive portal in the Pacific, I think this name is clever because it doesn’t give away what is in the film like the stereotypical Sci-Fi, like Star Wars. It also means the countries that surrround the Pacific Ocean. One of the other clever points is that the film suggests that the first alien life that we will meet will come from the sea not from space which is a new possibility for Sci-Fi. As well as that Legendary is the company that makes Godzilla and King Kong films and they have made a interesting origin for the evil aggressive Kaiju which is because there was a movement in the Tectonic Plates.
The Plot is Mainly about 5 (or 4 if you don’t count Coyote Tango) Jaegers or Massive 2-Pilot Mech Guardians that fight the extremely hostile Monsters from the Pacific. Each Jaeger is unique and symbolises the country it came from for example:
-Gipsy Danger represents the USA because of its armour makes it look like a boxer and it shoots like a cowboy.
-Coyote Tango and Crimson Typhoon for the Orients with light armour yet lethal weapons similar to a ninja. They are the most flexible of all Jaegers and rely on speed and agility to defeat Kaiju.
-Cherno Alpha for Russia on the other hand because of its power and strength as well as having thick armour which makes it intimidating. It uses force and weight to combat opponents.
-Striker Eureka doesn’t really represent Australia but it it extremely powerful and a good all rounder like Gipsy Danger. It also has effective nuclear missiles which are deadly.
The story starts at the turning point of the Kaiju War when the Kaiju begin trashing the Jaegers. This leads the main characters Marshal Stacker Pentecost, Raleigh Becket and Mako Mori to think of Plan B. With the help of the two eccentric professors Gottlieb and Geiszler as well. The film is very exciting and there are plot twists.
However my most favourite bit of the movie is the music that plays before the Jaegers are going into battle. Every time I hear that music even if my friend is humming it I remember the movie and how good the CGI was. As the film could get complicated at times I recommend this as a 12 for people interested in something fresher than starship battles in Star Wars. The Imagination of Guillermo del Toro is gobsmacking to me as I would have never thought of a Idea good as Pacific Rim...
In conclusion after I have added all the factors, good and Bad I would say that Pacific Rim is my most favourite film and deserves more than just the humble looking 5 Stars.
