This film greatly exceeded my expectations. My first thoughts of the movie were that it is a classic musical with an embedded love story and hidden with trials and tribulations that gets overcome by the main protagonist however within the film “chitty chitty bang bang” the story line was simple and complex at the same time this would keep viewers interested throughout the movie. The movie is heart-warming and is made for families as there is a love element for adults/adolescents and there is a fun element for kids. I believe the director done a great job in directing the movie as many hidden messages was flashed in front of the audience such as the director taking little jabs at German culture having the evil ruler act so selfish and childish just like how Hitler was portrayed in the media during world war 2. Another portrayal of the German people was the fact that they hated kids this would of made children not like the evil army at all especially when a common warning happened right on screen to show to never take candy from a stranger as they could kidnap you. We all have heard this warning even In modern times but the funny thing is about this scene is that the kidnapper was a stereotypical German Evan though they weren’t pronounced as German this would of psychologically programed the kids from a young age that Germans are evil and not to be trusted. This mentality was carried from world war 2 as this film was released just over 20 years after the war so hostilities and bad media coverage was still present I believe there mocking there German’s because the evil character’s seem to dress and live in German like fashion with many different stereo types being showcased. Overall I think that this movie is 4 stars out of 5. I think 4 because although it has many entertaining qualities I’m too used to faster paced camera movement and shot changes.
