Stand By Me (1986)

Only Stephen King and Rob Reiner could turn such a simple (and some times boring) concept into a cinematic masterpiece. Unlike modern cinema Stand By Me does not rely on the crutch of over the top visual effects or flashy camera techniques and it really works in the films favour, allowing the audience to connect with the characters and how they develop from simple stereotype underdogs to fully fledged complex characters with detailed and interesting backstories. It is almost impossible to find a movie which has such natural and funny dialogue which its authentic to the age of the characters and helps to move the story line along in an effective way better than Stand By Me, it stays on track of its single strand story in a way that does not bore the audience but rather keeps us engages with witty humour and an endearing narrative. A group of boys going on an adventure is at this point such an over done topic at this point as you have probably seen in films and shows like The Goonies or Stranger Things. But don't let this this convince you that you have seen anything like Stand By Me before, this classic coming of age story is definitely not one to ignore, it will evoke sadness, joy, anger, fear from its viewers in a way that is just purely unparalleled by modern cinema and will definitely not be beaten any time soon.
