This film is about Rachel Chu and her boyfriend Nick young who end up going to Singapore for his best friends wedding. It is there Rachel uncovers that she is dating an extremely wealthy man whose family have very high standards. This then leads on to the rest of the movie which is fun and cheerful in nature, and with all good romantic comedies, will take you on an emotional journey.
One of the main things I like about this movie is the setting. As it takes place in Singapore the director had access to more interesting/dynamic settings then the usual American setting. The director uses bright colours and lights effectively to make the film visually pleasing and interesting, making you invested from the first minute. Music is also used effectively which immerses you in the film and allows you to enjoy it more.
Some romantic comedies tend to focus more so on the romance and leave the comedy to the side, I would say this film leans more towards romance but when comedy is used it packs a punch and makes you laugh every time. Awkwafina in this film is by far the funniest character and when ever you see her on screen you know you are going to laugh.
One issue I have with the film and romantic comedies in general is that it was a tad bit predictable but this does go to the back of your mind during the film as it is still very entertaining, but it was still noticeable.
Overall I would say that this film does its job and I would recommend it to teenagers and adults alike.
