Charming, gleeful and clever, “A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon” is absolute Hayhem!

After a nearly 5 year wait, the second “Shaun the Sheep” movie is finally here, so did it live up to the amazing first film?

Yes it did! Although it wasn’t quite as flawless as its predecessor, “A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon” is still a hilarious and enjoyable adventure jam-packed with clever references to popular sci-fi films and TV shows! If you’re planning on going to the cinema this weekend, you can’t go wrong with “A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon!”

The stop-motion animation found in “Farmageddon” is some of the best that Aardman has ever produced. The characters and environments are so well-realised that I forgot that I was watching lumps of plasticine, the characters have so much soul and personality that they feel alive as you watch them on screen! I was blown-away by how stunning the cinematography and direction was in “Farmageddon”, there are some genuinely eye-widening shots filled with rich details and brilliant lighting. The care, attention to detail and love for the craft of animation is palpable in every frame; in a year filled with soulless and visionless blockbusters (“Dark Phoenix” and “Men in Black: International” for example), “A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon” is such a warm and refreshing experience!

The humour in “Farmageddon” is spot-on, there are hysterically funny Easter eggs that refer to everything from “Doctor Who” to “The X-Files”, “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”, “E.T.” and even “Galaxy Quest” that will appeal to adults and older children, whilst the slapstick gags will have younger audience members howling with laughter. Although the story is nothing original, the filmmakers did such a terrific job of packing plenty of smart and heart-warming moments into the story that you won’t notice how simplistic the narrative is.

To summarise, “A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon” is probably my second favourite film of 2019. It’s an innocent, enchanting and delightful film that will make even the most world-weary and cynical viewers crack a smile; this truly is perfect family entertainment! If you’re having a bad day and feel overwhelmed by the world, you owe it to yourself to go and see “A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon!”
