When I went in to watch this movie my expectations were not high, I was told that it was a movie about the beetles and the plot just seemed a bit too out there, and I’m not really the biggest beetles fan so I wasn’t too excited to watch this movie but after the first 10 minutes I was pleasantly surprised as I found the movie to be funny and witty without being crude like a lot of comedy today which allowed it to be more fun as there weren't many dark elements to the movie.

The movie itself had a very simple plot that was easy to follow, it’s about a man who hasn’t had much success with his singing career an instead sings beetles songs at small bars, this gets flipped on its head when a blackout occurs all around the world at the same moment he gets hit by a bus, this blackout somehow wipes everyone's memory of certain things, one of which is the beetles. The main character, Jack Malik, does not forget about the beetles though and he uses this to create a music business where he sings beetles songs and shows the public what they forgot, although this sounds all good for Jack he begins to feel as if he has cheated the original beetles and stole their songs which really weighs down on his conscious and brings him to release these songs for free so everyone can enjoy the beetles again. I thought that this plot worked very well as it was very easy to follow and would allow younger audiences to follow too, it also allows themes of guilt and depression to be shown without it taking away from the fun of the movie which is what makes this movie an enjoyable watch.

To my surprise I very much enjoyed this movie even though my expectations were not high I feel like this movie was so enjoyable because of the interesting plot and goo characters which you can care for, especially Jack who has been crafted to be very relatable an show people that your dreams can become reality if you put the work in. I also enjoyed the comedy in the movie especially the jokes and gags that involved the things that people forgot about, one scene in particular shows Jack typing in coke on the internet and Pablo Escobar shows up instead of the rink which I felt was very smart and is very obviously meant for a specific audience. Although the movie was fun to watch I don’t think I would watch it again as a lot of the good things in the movie especially the jokes wouldn’t be very funny when you know they are coming I also dis liked the romantic side of the movie as it was not developed enough and relied on a lot of tropes which felt very unoriginal and made the movie feel unfinished at times due to underdevelopment of that side plot.

I would recommend you watch this movie if you enjoy music as it gives a lot of insight into the mind of the artist who created some of the best songs of all time which allows the movie to be very interesting whilst also being very funny and smart, but if you really dislike romantic movies I would pass on this movie as the romantic side plot might really pull you out of the movie and may ruin for you and if you aren't into music then there may be a lot of content that won't be enjoyable for you.
