Having not watched the original film which was made in 1994, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this remake. Whilst I enjoy animation, like Toy Story and Shrek, I thought this movie would be rather dull and wouldn’t keep my interest. How wrong was I?
The live action graphics are impressively realistic as opposed to the original which was animation. The soundtrack was recognisable with the songs made famous by Elton John, which included Circle of Life and Can You Feel the Love Tonight. James Earl Jones returned to lent his voice to the part of Mufasa with his iconic tones which I remember from Star Wars. Beyoncé voiced the part of Nala and her soft voice matched the gentle feminine character perfectly.
I was caught off guard as there were a few scenes of the ferociousness of the lion’s roars that made me jump. There was also humour in the characters of Pumbaa, the warthog and Timon, the meerkat that made me laugh out loud.
This remake of the original is about power, family and monarchy and would appeal to an older audience as opposed to the original film which would have been aimed at a younger audience. I would recommend this film to all ages.
