Based on a true story. ''The Darkest Hour'', tells the story of a troubled time during WW2. It's May, 1940 and Neville Chainberlain has resigned as Prime Minster and someone needed to fit the job. There two main candidates: Winston Churchill and Lord Halifax. Churchill gets the job. But from here, the heavy work begins.
Throughout the film, it was quite tense and catches your attention quickly. I could agree that I didn't enjoy watching this. Mainly because I felt so sympathetic for Churchill having all the pressure put on him. Imagine being Prime Minister during a war and having the nation's future in your hands. Having the future generation of the British people in your hands and at your care, one wrong move and all British people could be dead. This for me, made me feel really uncomfortable watching it. This would make anyone who watches it realise how big of a celebration VE Day is.
I had been wanting to watch this film for a long time and finally I got to watch and it was definitely worth the wait. Scoring a 7.4 out of 10. ''The Darkest Hour'' is one of my favourite films. Even though it is mainly tense and serious there were also some quite funny and enjoyable moments. I had a few favourite quotes, which were : ''Do not interrupt me, while I am interrupting you'' and '' You can not reason with a tiger, when your head is in it's mouth''. I'd recommend 9+ because some younger may not understand and it also includes some bad words.
What an amazing performance from all the cast. I recognised some familiar faces from the cast such as: Lily James and Ben Mendelsohn. But I did not expect Gary Oldman to be starring the main character. He did a fantastic job as so did the rest of the cast.
