Wolfwalkers

Wolfwalkers is a thrilling 2D animation full of action and adventure. The film is made by the director Tomm Moore who also made Song of the Sea for Cartoon Saloon. The themes of friendship, family and understanding and listening to others are similar to Song of the Sea but this myth is no gentle trip to the seaside. It had me on the edge of my seat!

It is set in 1650 when the lord protector and the English invaded Ireland. The English want to kill the wolves. Will an unexpected friendship between two girls stop them?

I was mesmerised by the beautiful animation. I noticed that some of the characters had pointed faces when others had rounded ones. This shows whether the characters are Irish or English. It also shows that the Irish understand the wolfwalkers and the harm to the environment better than the English. I loved that you could see the hand drawn lines of the animators on the characters. This showed the hard work that was put in to the creation of the film.

The wonderful backgrounds were also beautiful. It reminded me of Studio Ghibli with all of the detail.

If you like Song of the Sea or Studio Ghibli and want a film that is action packed and full of adventure then become a wolfwalker too.
