Pom Poko (1994)

Pom Poko's animation has a good smoothness to it, feeling ahead of its time compared to some other animated movies at the time; there is generally only one scene that is worth paying attention to. The narrative is simplistic, but contains many subtle themes and meanings. There are so many major and minor characters that it is easy to lose track of them, and it can get unclear if there are any main characters. It uses the classic setting of Tokyo, but is better presented due to the animation and context.

Pom Poko can be a good watch, and good as background noise, but I wouldn't recommend re-watching the film for enjoyment unless you really like it. It is the reason why it is a more obscure Ghibli movie.
