A Dark Film About An Alien

4 stars

09 Mar 2022

When I just saw the title of the film, that being called Super 8, it was an interesting film to watch as I went in blind watching this film, not knowing a single thing about it. It's definitely something that I wasn't expecting from a film called Super 8.

THE MYSTERY OF THE STORY

What is the story of this film is about? It's a sort of story that seems inspired by The Goonies, as well as Alien or Jurassic Park I believe. It's a story that definitely has inspiration for Sci-Fi films. It's about 4 of these boys wanting to create a film, as well as getting a girl involved, as one of the character, who is called ??? wanted to create a film for a festival. As they start to make production on the film, with having the train go past the train station, the train goes off the rails. It doesn't take long for it to go dark. It's definitely a story that is an interesting watch as a dark Sci-Fi. Thought it's dark, there are actually odd funny moments in it too.

THE 80s LIKE GOONIES CHARACTERS

For the characters, I do think that the cast in the film are done well, as I do think they're interesting enough to watch. I wouldn't say that the character's are something that I say have amazing development either but with what the characters go through and deal with the plot of the story that's a threat, I do think it's interesting how they encounter it, as well as learning about the threat. I do think it is good on how each of the character's interact with each other too, as they do develop more on being friends.

THE SCORE

With the score, I do think that it is done well here as it does fit each scene well when it needs to do. The way that I can describe the score is that it wasn’t cheerful or exciting as it was more on the moody and the serious side as there was a threat that wouldn’t make anything cheerful in this film. I think that it’s done well, especially with the scenes that it’s in.

IS THE TITLE FITTING?

From watching this film and talking to a friend about it, I think that the title is interesting as a choice as I do think that, for what the film is about partly in the film, which is a camera that was released in 1965.

WHAT I DISLIKED

What I really found odd about this film is that it's quite unclear on what this alien thing was as it makes less scene on why the alien thing was there on the earth in the first place, as well as what happened to the breeds of dogs. Are dogs now extinct? If there's anything that I do find as a flaw with this film, it is that it leaves questions that are unanswered. It’s not the worst ending that this film has, but it is not the worst either as it can be seen as satisfying in a way. I just think that the ending of the film was delivered okay. It’s nothing that’s outstanding. I dislike the fact that the dogs ain’t anywhere to be seen againIn a way, I do think it’s dark but is positive in a way too. Thinking of the ending more, I think that maybe it was a bit rushed, but still make it a decent film to watch.

WOULD I RECOMMEND WATCHING IT?

From what I watched, I don’t think it’s a bad film to watch for 2 hours as I do think that it’s a great and thrilling time. I do like the plot that is there, as well as how it all builds up the plot and tells it is done well. I do think it was presented well with the special effects and with how their film was made. I think that this film has a diverse 4 stars as I don’t think all of it was bad. Would I watch it again? In honesty, I don’t think I would watch it again after the first time as I think it was a good film to see once. If anything, I don’t like the fact that the dogs don’t get an anchorage on what happens to them. Though if anything, I do think that watching it could also inspire and give an idea on how to create a story as well as maybe on giving an idea on how an ending should have been. Questioning if it was a good ending or not, as well as maybe how a sci-fi film could be than just out in space. I do think that this film is a good watch as well for inspiration for how to make a thriller as well.
